General Information

  1. How is the course presented?
    The course is presented over the internet using a browser and Adobe Flash. The student will follow the course presenter using previously recorded course materal, with the ability to pause, stop/resume later, go back to a previously viewed section, change topics, etc.
  2. Who is the course aimed at?
    The course is primarily aimed at professional software developers who are not familiar with PowerBuilder, as well as second year Technical College IT students (and above).
  3. What does the course include?
    The course includes everything you'll need to learn rapidly develop a comprehensive PowerBuilder skill set. You'll have access for three months to the eLearnIT online delivery mechanism developed specifically for this course, as well as the ISUG-eLearnIT support facilities where you can interact with fellow students as well as the teacher of the course. If you're not currently an ISUG member, you'll receive a free one-year ISUG Green membership as part of your purchase. (Existing members will receive a free one-year extension to their existing membership.)
  4. What will I learn by the end of the course?
    Upon completion of the core course, you will be capable of building your own PowerBuilder workgroup scale application from scratch or performing maintenance tasks on an enterprise scale application.
  5. What version of PowerBuilder is the course based on?
    The course was designed and written using version 11.5x BUT, the 98% of the content is valid for all current versions. A few controls, properties and methods were added in newer versions. Also the arrangement of the properties on a few control property sheets was changed. The impact of these changes on the course content is negligible. All core concepts technologies and techniques presented are version independent.
  6. What if I run into a problem during lab? Where do I get help?
    ISUG has set up a special learner support forum for each course offered. Post a message there. The instructor checks in several times each day and will respond to all questions.
  7. What if I have a question during the presentations? Where can I get an answer?
    All questions can be posted in the ISUG learner forum.

Pricing Information

  1. How much does the course cost?
    The core course costs just $699 and includes everything you'll need to successfully deploy your newly-learned PowerBuilder skills.
  2. How much are the add-on modules?
    Add-on modules will be available later this year and will be made available for $249. (ISUG members are elligible for a $75 discount per module; please contact  for more details.)
  3. Is there more than one course?
    Currently there is only one complete course available. A second course will be available later in 2009 which will deal with more advanced topics.

Course Requirements

  1. What do I need to take the course? You will need Adobe Flash Player 6.0.79 or later (Get it here!) (Flash Player 7 or later recommended), and one of the following browsers:
    • Windows: Internet Explorer 6, Internet Explorer 7, Firefox 1.x and later, Safari 3, Google Chrome, Opera 9.5
    • Macintosh: Firefox 1.x and later, Safari 3
    • Linux: Firefox 1.x or later.
  2. What version of PowerBuilder do I need to do the lab exercises?
    You can perform the lab application exercises (LATTE) with any current version of PowerBuilder ( >=8), since you will build the application from the ground up. However, solutions are only provided for version 11.5. ISUG does provide an NFR copy of PB 11.5 that you can use to do the labs. The Mini-Lab exercises at the end of most topics require version 11.5.
  3. What if we use an earlier version of PowerBuilder at work?
    No problem. Core knowledge and skills are version neutral. You will be able to directly apply the knowledge and skills that you acquire in this course to any current version of PowerBuilder.
